Self-Pay
Some clients decide to pay for their counseling out of their pocket. This is often referred to as "private pay” or “self pay.”
Private pay clients choose not to involve insurance companies in their mental health care. Their counseling is not limited by a diagnosis, treatment plan, or session limits that health insurance companies dictate. Private pay clients can see whoever they feel is a good match for them without any interference from insurance companies. You have the control, not the insurance company.
If you have a Health Savings Account (HSA), any fees paid to a licensed provider can be submitted to your HSA for reimbursement.

Good Faith Estimate
You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your mental health care will cost. Under the law, health care providers need to give patients/clients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the expected charges for medical services, including counseling services.
You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency healthcare services, including psychotherapy services. You can ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule a service. If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill.
Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.
